Foragers Basket Weaving Workshop
Almost everything works again if you un-plug it for a few minutes…including you.
Join us for a lovely slow analog style Sunday, keeping our hands busy and slowing our minds using this age-old weaving process.
We are delighted to be joined in the studio this summer by local ceramicist and basket weaver Emily Hall for a mindful and soulful Sunday weaving workshop, using a mixture of bought, found and foraged seasonal materials to create a stunning hand-woven basket or coiled mat.
Workshop date: Sunday 22nd September / 10:30 to 1:00
Workshop Time: 10:30 to 13:00
Workshop Location: Surrey Art School, Dean House Farm, RH5 5DL
Workshop Tutor: Emily Hall
Basket-weaving is an ancient craft that incorporates many materials and weaving styles. It is just as much a creative process as it is calming, social and meditative
This workshop will give you an introduction into the coiled technique. Coiling is typically a ‘foragers’ weaving style, an ancient and versatile technique that is used worldwide with the materials adapting to the native area.
In this class we will be using a range of natural and coloured raffia and twine to create our foragers basket. Emily will show you how to incorporate different textures and patterns into your weaving to create either a basket or woven mat.
You will be provided with FREE starter kit of materials for the workshop and Emily will talk through the types of plants you could gather from your local area to continue weaving practice at home.
Join us for a super calming and mindful Sunday workshop at the studio and learn to weave in a new and fascinating way! You’ll be able to make one or more small basket or if you’re feeling ambitious one sightly larger vessel!
How to book: Book online to secure your spot. Further information is emailed the week before the workshop. Suitable for absolute beginners. Workshops are for adults, but young artists 14 + can join when accompanied by an adult (18+). Full booking terms and conditions are here.
