Seasonal Botanical Casting Masterclass
Each moment of the year has its own beauty - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our Botanical Casting Masterclass led by expert plaster caster Abilu will help you connect to the beauty of each season as each workshop draws inspiration from the flora and forage that each new season brings. Learn how to capture and keep the beauty of each moment!
Workshop Date: Saturday 16th November 2019
Workshop time: 14:00 to 17:00
Workshop Location: Surrey Art School, Dean House Farm, RH55DL
Join us for a voyage of discovery with our fabulous 3D specialist where you will learn the art of botanical casting, working with clay and plaster to create incredibly detailed relief casts to take home! In Spring we’ll work with new blooms such as daffodils and bluebells, in summer with textures from the meadows, in the Autumn we’ll explore acorns and ferns and come winter we’ll be reaching for larch, pine and other festive beauties to inspire our casting.
You'll start by learning all about Plaster of Paris - from mixing the correct consistencies, to eliminating bubbles in the cast and exploring setting times by creating a series of test casts using natural materials.
Then you'll roll out clay to create a final impression cast using your own choice of botanical blooms and exploring composition and layout for your final cast.
One final plaster pour and a bit of patience, and you'll create a relief cast directly into a frame which you'll learn how to clean up and finish ready to hang in your home!
Expect a fun, messy and wildly creative workshop that will give you lots of ideas and plenty of advice to continue your casting practice beyond the classroom.
All materials, expert tuition and light refreshments are included!
