Ceramics Workshops with Jo Hannah

Jo Hannah is an experienced 'maker' whose creative practice with clay explores the beauty of natural materials - undergoing state changes  through firing and becoming beautiful, robust rustic pieces made or raised by a gentle hand. Jo is a great believer in the therapeutic qualities of working with clay and her workshops are calm and mindful.


This summer we have two lovely ceramics workshops on offer - a Woodland Creatures workshop for kids 6+ and a Family Pinch Pots workshop for adults and kids 6+ - see below for booking details…


Family Pinch Pots Workshop


Workshop Date: Thursday 22nd August 2019

Workshop time: 14:30 to 16:30

Workshop Location: Surrey Art School, The Old Dairy, RH5 5DL

Tutor: Jo Hannah

Age range: Adults and kids 6+

Come and make time to make together with our lovely Family Ceramics Workshop led by Jo Hannah.

In this family friendly workshop you will learn how to form a pot using the simplest of ceramic techniques, ‘pinching’. This technique is ideal for anyone who is new to clay and would like a gentle introduction to the medium. Using only a ball of clay and your hands, you will be shown the process of forming a simple pot.

This is a lovely activity to sit and do together and can be adapted to suit both young learners and adults. You can carve designs into your pots and add brightly coloured slip to decorate the final vessels!

Woodland Creatures Kids Ceramics Workshop


Workshop Date: Thursday 22nd August 2019

Workshop time: 10:00 to 12:00

Workshop Location: Surrey Art School, The Old Dairy, RH5 5DL

Tutor: Jo Hannah

Age range: Kids 6+

A lovely little hands on ceramics workshop that spark the imagination of our young artists (6+) this summer. They will learn how to shape clay by hand and then carve into to it to create these simply adorable ceramic woodland figures with the gentle guidance of Jo Hannah.

The kids will be able to make multiple creatures for their little collection of woodland friends and can add slip to colour if they choose.

Firing and glazing of these little figures is included in the workshop and their collections of creatures will be available to collect a couple of weeks after.

This is a drop and go workshop but you are more than welcome to stay and sip on a bottomless cup of tea or coffee in our lovely studio garden if you like!

All workshops take place in our fully equipped studio:

Surrey Art School, Dean House Farm, Newdigate, Dorking, RH5 5DL

The studio is located in the beautiful village of Newdigate, 15 minutes south of Dorking, just off the A24. Its a lovely rural setting with stunning views and plenty of free parking onsite.
