Lino Etch Day Course

Throw away you cutting tools!

This fab day course teaches you how to create beautiful, almost painterly marks on lino, smooth indents or rugged textures with a lot less elbow grease than traditional cutting tools and a range of NEW opportunities to experiment with the surface of a lino block.

Course Date: Sunday 10th March 2019

Course level: Beginners and Explorers!

Course Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Location: Surrey Art School, The Old Dairy, RH5 5DL.

Tutor: Paul Wye

Lino etch is an exciting and expressive technique that uses chemicals (caustic soda) to bite into the Lino to create an image - rather than traditional cutting. This process will encourage you to be expressive and gestural in your mark making and is a perfect counter point to more graphic lino cutting techniques

We'll begin the day by using varnish to paint, drizzle, flick and splat your images, using a range of impressionistic marks. Once you have varnished your plates we will use a mix of caustic soda to bite into the surface of your plates and reveal your designs.

Once the plates have been bitten we will then explore printing with both standard relief printing as well as intaglio 'a la poupée' to layer colours and interest in your prints.

Lino etch is a unique process that will allow you to produce your own highly distinctive prints
