Young Sketchers at Leith Hill Place

Leith Hill has long been an inspiration to painters, poets, composers and more - with such a stunning area to explore, picturesque views and a magical atmosphere, it the perfect site for our summer school for budding artists ( 11-16’s ) looking to hone their technical skill whilst getting a good lungful of fresh air too!

This summer we’re taking some of our very best technical workshops ‘out and about’ using the stunning Surrey Hills as the backdrop for our summer school for budding artists passionate about sharpening their pencils and their focus with our blend of mindfulness and creativity.

Wednesday 24th July 2019 / 10:00 to 13:00 / Leith Hill Place

Drawing is about more than simply picking up a pencil - how do I hold it? What marks can it make? What is the difference between a B and a H. This zen drawing workshop has been an absolute hit with our adult learners as it breaks down a vocabulary of marks into a simple format to help us better understand just what our pencil can do and what to do with it!

Wednesday 31st July 2019 / 10:00 to 13:00/ Leith Hill Place

We’re keeping it super soft with this workshop exploring soft pastels, chalk and charcoal. Our young artists will learn how to blend, smudge and layer soft materials without creating a dust storm! A lovely introduction into working with texture and tone working with artist quality Conte pastels and charcoal pencils to render these beautiful studies of their surroundings.

Wednesday 7th August 2019 / 10:00 to 13:00 / Leith Hill Place

I’ve had so many young artists ask me how to tackle trees - so this workshop is my end to end how to guide on where to start, which materials work best, what brushes to use and everything else you could imagine. We’ll be working with inks first before getting our thinking caps on for an acrylic painting session that will help your budding creatives feel so much more confident about tackling a woodland scene.

Wednesday 21st August 2019 / 10:00 to 13:00/ Leith Hill Place

You can learn a lot of things from the flowers - these often elusive shapes and colours can be tricky to capture - unless you have a few tricks up your sleeve. For this last of the summer workshops we’ll be using seasonal flowers as inspiration for exploration of fine liners, brush pens and flowing wet on wet watercolours. Simple approaches with stunning results.
