Youth Weaving Workshop
Lets get analog. In an increasingly digital age of screens and fast-communication this workshop will keep your young artists tethered to the present moment for just a few hours as they are challenged to use their hands and minds to weave a small textile artwork from scratch. They can throw in a bit of heart too if they’re in the mood…Practical, tactile, fun and thoroughly enjoyable.
Workshop date: Saturday 13th April 2019
Workshop time: 14:00 to 16:00
Workshop level: Beginners
Age range: 8-16’s
Tutor: Susannah Bolton
Start your weaving journey with the wonderful Susannah Bolton this season where she will be teaching your teens the art of weaving - a relaxing and mindful activity that is both calming and creative!
For our young-artist friendly session, students will learn how to make their own loom from scratch, how to warp it up and finally how to create their own small wall-hanging or textile art piece.
Susannah’s own practice investigates landscapes, geology and mapping and she will share some examples of her work as inspiration offering a little insight into the day to day life of a working artist.
As usual there will be a selection of different types of yarns to choose from and students will be encouraged to consider the composition of their work and be as imaginative as they like with their outcomes.
At the end of the session they’ll be taught how complete their weaves so that their hand-made looms are ready to use again. They’ll discover a screen free activity that is slow, mindful and a welcome relief from the busy modern world!
