Be mindful where you tread this season as we step into the land of bugs, slugs and winged ones that make our world go round.

We’ll turn our little friends into drawings & paintings, filling our sketchbooks with bug-lore and finding out more about how each little critter contributes to the balance and harmony of our ecosystem.

Project Content:

Cycle 1 : Snails | Snail Anatomy, Sketching Snail Shells, Snails and tonal scales, Garden Snails.

Cycle 2: Slugs | Fun Slug facts, Slug Anatomy, Slug ID, Slug Folklore, Inky slugs, Slug colour swatching and Watercolour Slug study

Cycle 3: Beetles | Beetle Morphology, Beetle Anatomy, Beetle Sketching, Beetle Shapes and Beetle watercolour swatching

Cycle 4: Iridescent Beetles | Rose Chafer and Tansy Beetle ID, Sketching Rose Chafer and Tansy Beetle / Colour swatching, Tansy Beetle step by step in watercolour

Cycle 5: Spiders | What are arachnids? Spider Anatomy, Stories about spiders (folklore), Daddy Long Legs and False Widow Spiders, Inky winky spiders and webs

Cycle 6: Grasshoppers and Crickets | Grasshopper Anatomy, Grasshopper spiritual meaning & folklore, Field & Meadow Grasshoppers, Grasshopper Sketching and in depth pen and wash study.

Materials used (not included in project price) : 2B Pencil, blender / tortillion, basic pan pallete of watercolours, rough watercolour paper, Size 2 and 6 round brush, Sepia Fineliner, Black Fineliner (0.5) Walnut ink - or burnt umber, brush pen or brush & ink, Indian Ink (or acrylic ink) white coal pencil or gelly pen. Most of these materials are available in our Art Shop.

Additional paints used (not essential) - Indigo (or Prussian blue & black) Sap green, Undersea Green, Iridescent Green, Electric Blue (these are all Daniel Smith colours) Lemon Yellow, Gamboge Hue
