Welcome to Surrey Art School
We are a contemporary seasonal art school offering a changing menu of workshops, courses and events as well as regular classes that continue all year round.
We collaborate with local artists and venues to offer you the widest range of opportunities to get creative and make time for you.
We believe in the value of creativity to enhance our overall sense of well-being and curate a menu of courses and workshops that not only offer new skills but foster calm and confidence.
Have a look at our full creative menu below below or check out the calendar for upcoming events this month!
Our Creative Menu
As members of Surrey Hills AONB and passionate lovers of the local flora and fauna - our creative menu is beautifully attuned to the seasons. Here you will find a mixture of seasonal workshops, regular classes and courses and clubs that will help you develop your creativity over time.
In our busy lives and bustling homes its not always easy to find either the space or the time to get creative. If we want to make progress creatively, in the same way as we might take care of our bodies or our minds - it helps to develop a regular practice routine. Our classes and clubs are a chance to meet and make on a regular basis within a warm, friendly and supportive community of learners. Step this way for our Young Sketchers Class for 8-12’s, our GCSE booster classes, Sketchbook Club for Adults and Surrey Print Club for printmakers!
Modern Calligraphy and Brush Lettering have hit the creative world by storm over the last couple of years - working with lettering really opens up a world of possibilities for creating your own gift tags, greetings cards or simply as a way of switching off from a busy life and tuning into an analog process for a few hours. And the best bit? It doesn’t matter how messy your hand-writing is, anyone can learn this skill!
If you’re ready to take your creative practice into the third dimension we have a gorgeous range of Plaster Casting and Ceramic workshops available on our menu. Re-discover the calming qualities of clay or find that sense of wonder with our magical botanical casting workshop. This is mindful creativity at its best and the results are so stunning they will blow your mind too!
Drawing is not what one sees, but what one can make others see - Edgar Degas
Take a line for a walk with us, take a skip through sketching, learn to sight - observing shape, proportion and scale , see the light, find the form. We have all the technical tricks in our toolkit to help you develop your drawing practice and leave you with a vocabulary for mark-making that will build both your confidence and skill whether you’re a complete beginner or just feeling a little rusty with recording.
Painting is such a relaxing way to record the world around you and the good news is, once you know a few technical tricks, its an absolute breeze to master.
We offer a range of watercolour workshops as well as a rare chance to paint on water with our paper marbling workshops!
SAS founder Ellie Green offers seasonal Photography workshops both in the studio and in locations across Surrey throughout the year. Her approach to Photography is mindful, using the process as a moving meditation and introducing students to the magic of both digital and analogue Photography techniques!
Here at SAS we could not be more passionate about print-making! Whether you are just beginning your journey with print and need a few tips on how to get started or you’re looking to add a little more depth and dimension to your practice, we have everything you need in our fully equipped studio to spark your imagination and get you growing!
We believe that weaving, knitting and working with Textiles based practices can help you BREATHE. These hands on, analog processes give the mind a little break as it just does what its told for a minute and sits quietly. There’s a slow, calm and super meditative nature to letting your hands do the talking. Take a look at our menu of weaving, knitting and textiles courses and workshops here.
